How This Work Began: My Why
For more than three decades, I’ve walked alongside individuals, teams, and organizations learning how to heal from harm, burnout, and disconnection. But my path into this work began long before I had a title. My work began out of pain, loss, and observation.
When I was young, a family tragedy shaped the direction of my life. In the midst of grief, I felt a deep call to help others heal, to build healthier ways of living in a world that asks us to both survive and thrive. Empathy, and something beyond empathy — a sense of responsibility — took root in me.
I began working with youth and families, walking beside individuals as they created change in their lives. Over time, I saw that healing in isolation often deepens the struggle, while healing in community is transformative. The ripple effect of one person’s healing touching others made clear that Indigenous ways of living — grounded in relationship, reflection, and belonging — are the true foundations of health and wellbeing.
As an Eagle/Bear woman from Hoonah, Alaska, my roots in Lingít values guide every part of my practice. I’ve witnessed how Indigenous wisdom — listening deeply, honoring story, restoring balance — holds the very knowledge modern systems seek. Over time, I’ve woven these teachings with the science of community psychology, trauma-informed care, and organizational wellbeing.
Renee Culp Renewal Consulting brings together culture and practice, reflection and strategy, heart and system. I work with individuals seeking renewal, leaders navigating change, and teams and organizations striving to create cultures of care and accountability. Together, we build spaces where people feel seen, valued, and connected—where healing ripples outward into families, workplaces, and communities.
